Following the outstanding success of its spectacular summer production, Jekyll & Hyde in 2007, Act 1 Theatre Company responded to audience acclaim this year with an equally thrilling show in the form of the Broadway production of Kiss Me, Kate. Featuring the vibrant music and lyrics of Cole Porter, the show ran for three nights on 17th, 18th and 19th July at CHADS Theatre, Mellor Road in Cheadle Hulme.
This was a spectacular show which carried both cast and audience along on a gloriously entertaining romp as it showcased Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew through the genre of Musical Theatre. Cole Porter’s stunning music and fabulously funny and clever lyrics had audiences carried along on a rollercoaster ride of humour and pathos. |

With a relatively small cast, this was a show which saw several of its members doubling, and in some cases, trebling up on roles and producing a vibrant, energetic and highly professional show in the process! Its reputation for producing innovative and challenging productions saw the company once again rise to the occasion with this notoriously demanding show, which had long standing audience members declaring it, “Act 1’s best production yet!”.

Originally conceived for the stage by Sam & Bella Spewack, this stunning production first took Broadway by storm. A play within a play, the show features Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” as performed by a touring theatre company in 1940’s Baltimore, and follows the lives and loves of its four principal characters. With show-stopping numbers such as “Too Darn Hot”, “Another Opening, Another Show” and “Wunderbar”, it provides the chance to experience the music of Cole Porter at his foot tapping best! Once again this proved to be another groundbreaking show for Act 1 which took its cast and audiences to a new level of Musical Theatre experience. Many thanks to everyone involved in Kiss Me Kate, to CHADS Theatre for hosting the production, and of course, to our audiences who came along to be part of a show that was just “too darn hot” to miss! |
